The Alkonost is, according to Russian folklore, a creature with the body of a bird but the head of a beautiful woman. It makes sounds that are amazingly beautiful, and those who hear these sounds forget everything they know and want nothing more ever again, rather like the sirens of Greek myth. The alkonost lays her eggs on a beach and then rolls them into the sea. When the alkonost’s eggs hatch, a thunderstorm sets in and the sea becomes so rough that it is untravelable. The name of the alkonost came from a Greek demigoddess whose name was Alcyone. In Greek mythology, Alcyone was transformed by the gods into a kingfisher.
I have no idea why this is my favorite video+song from Luka. I have no idea what the song is about, how the video fits, and the song itself isn’t even that stand-offish, it’s more of an easy-listening jingle than anything.
There are some really nice redeeming qualities. The song isn’t some big testament of love or destiny or passion. It’s kind of a mishmash of confusion and drearyness (is that even a word? Oh well) and expresses that with subtlety, leaving the listeners guessing the song’s meaning.
Video-wise, I love how most of the beauty in this is the editing rather than the 3D model of Luka bouncing around. The use of silhouettes and full body shots reminds me of an opening to a Bond film.
It may not be the most interesting of songs or dynamic of videos, but this is a nice little gem in the Vocaloid world. :)
(WTF is with the chairs falling out of the skirt though? XD)

I remember buying Sapphire back when it became “okay” to play pokemon again in middle school… I still have that cartridge and refuse to start a new game, Keiko, you’re my fav Sceptile and don’t ever forget it. <3 Also Hoenn FTW!
